Society and FBA co-host annual luncheon, November 27

The Federal Bar Association, Eastern District of Michigan Chapter, the Historical Society of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan will co-host the the Barbara J. Rom Award/Rakow Scholarship/Historical Society Luncheon on Tuesday, Nov. 27, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Marriott Hotel-Detroit Ren Cen. 

The luncheon’s keynote speaker will be Craig B. Glidden, Executive Vice President and General Counsel at General Motors. Before joining GM in March 2015, Glidden was the chief legal officer at both LyondellBasell Industries N.V. (2009-2015) and Chevron Phillips Chemical Co. LLC (2000-2009).  Upon graduating from Tulane University and the Florida State University Law School, he joined Shackleford, Farrior, Stallings, & Evans in Tampa, Florida. In 1988, he joined Beirne, Maynard & Parsons LLP, where he became a partner specializing in energy and commercial litigation. In 1996, Glidden founded his own law firm, Glidden Partners LLP, where he focused on complex commercial litigation and arbitration. He is licensed to practice in Texas and Florida and has authored two multi-volume treatises on commercial litigation in Texas.

The luncheon will also feature the presentation of the Federal Bar Foundation’s annual Rakow Scholarship Awards to students from each of Michigan’s law schools. In addition, the Historical Society will present its program with Wayne State University Law School  Professor Robert Ackerman as its speaker. The Society will also present the Annual Barbara Rom Award for Bankruptcy Excellence.
