WMU-Cooley Law School’s Auburn Hills students collected food during the month of November in order to assemble and deliver ingredients for Thanksgiving dinner for 130 local families in need this holiday. The meals were delivered to Avondale High School, where administrators identified families who will receive the meals.

More than 130 local families in the Auburn Hills community had a Thanksgiving meal provided by students at Western Michigan University Cooley Law School’s Auburn Hills campus. The law school teamed up with Avondale High School to help feed those who would otherwise not be able to afford a Thanksgiving meal.
As part of the law school’s “Making Meals Happen” program, students collect potatoes, gravy, stuffing, green beans, corn, cranberry sauce, cornbread mix and $20 gift cards for turkeys. Over the course of 10 years, WMU-Cooley students have collected over 1,600 meals for those who otherwise would not be able to afford a Thanksgiving meal.
“We are honored to serve our local community,” said Professor Martha Moore, who has been involved with the Making Meals Happen program for 10 years. “One big lesson we try to instill in our students is that when they become practicing attorneys they have an obligation to give back to the community.”
