Program to look at changes in Michigan's Court Rules, September 5

The Oakland County Bar Association will present “Discover(y) Changes in Michigan’s Court Rules” on Thursday, Sept. 5, from 8:30 to 10 a.m. at the OCBA offices, 1760 South Telegraph Road, Suite 100, in Bloomfield Hills.

The legal profession has been reticent to modify litigation processes, court rules, and business practices in ways that may deliver more efficient and inexpensive solutions to legal problems. But in 2016, the State Bar of Michigan formed a subcommittee to take on the task of establishing new streamlined discovery rules. The Michigan Supreme Court adopted the rules earlier this year and they go into effect January 1, 2020.

Subcommittee Chair and current OCBA President Daniel D. Quick joins Oakland County Circuit Court Chief Judge Shalina D. Kumar and Subcomittee member Oakland County Circuit Court Judge James M. Alexander for a deep-dive into the new rules and how they will affect the way attorneys conduct litigation in Michigan.

Cost for the program is $40 for OCBA members; $30 for new lawyers, paralegals, students; and $50 for non-members. To register or for additional information, visit www.ocba.org and click on “events.”
