Judge welcomed at ceremony

Oakland County Circuit Court Judge Kameshia Gant (left)?was sworn in during an investiture ceremony on Thursday, July 25, in the Commissioners’ Auditorium at the Oakland County courthouse in Pontiac. Happy to administer the oath of office was Oakland County Circuit Court Chief Judge Shalina Kumar (right). Gant was appointed by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer to fill a partial term which expires on January 1, 2021, after Judge Karen McDonald stepped down in April. If Gant wishes to seek a full six-year term, she would be required to run for re-election in November of 2020. Prior to her appointment, she was a solo practitioner with Gant Law PLLC and a public defender. Gant is a member of the Black Women Lawyer’s Association of Michigan. She received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan and her law degree from Wayne State University Law School.
