Sworn in to office

Kimberly G. Altman (left) was sworn in as a new magistrate judge for the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan on September 16 in a virtual ceremony at the federal courthouse in Detroit. Among those on hand for the event was retired U.S. District Judge Avern Cohn (right), with whom Altman served as a career law clerk since December 1999. A resident of Rochester Hills, Altman earned her bachelor’s degree with high honor from James Madison College at Michigan State University and obtained her juris doctor, magna cum laude, from Wayne State University Law School. She has been active with the Eastern District of Michigan Chapter of the Federal Bar Association, formerly serving as a trustee, and also is a trustee with the Court Historical Society for the Eastern District of Michigan.
