Marathon man

Dexter attorney Dan Egeler completed four marathons in a 24-hour period, Oct. 24-25, to raise funds for two dog rescue charities at which he volunteers. The “WagginBarkRace” had the goal of raising $50,000 for Waggin’ Tails Dog Rescue in Northville and Bark Nation in Ferndale. The final tally was $134,000, and Egeler gained national publicity. He is pictured returning triumphantly on Oct. 25.

A native of Leland on the Leelanau peninsula, Egeler earned his undergrad degree from the University of Michigan and his law degree from University of Detroit Mercy School of Law in 1986—completing his final semester while receiving four months of chemotherapy for cancer. He was in private practice in Ann Arbor and Detroit for 11 years, primarily concentrating in litigation, before going in-house for a further 11 years at the global transportation/logistics company Con-way/XPO Logistics. Mostly retired since then, Egeler took up running in 2018. After running a couple of 5K races, he entered the Detroit Marathon last year.
