Panel to discuss govt. lawyers who transition to private practice, July 21

Recent data suggests there is skyrocketing demand for lawyers looking to make a career change. The Federal Bar Association, Eastern District of Michigan Chapter, and Honigman LLP will host a virtual panel discussion to explore a discrete segment of the legal market: former government lawyers who successfully transitioned to private practice.

“Public Servant to Private Practitioner: A Roadmap for Transitioning Out” will take place online Wednesday, July 21, from noon to 1 p.m. via Zoom.  As a webinar style event, only the event speakers will be on camera.

The panelists will discuss their career path, journey to private practice, and considerations for lawyers looking to transition their practice from public to private or private to public. The panel will further explore how working on the “inside” can help shape one’s practice on the outside.

The panel will include Matthew Schneider, former U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Michigan; Mark Burton, former chief strategist, Executive Office of Governor Whitmer; Alex Parrish, former assistant to the General Counsel, U.S. Department of the Army; and Mahja Zeon, former deputy prosecuting attorney, Vanderburgh and Marion County Prosecutor’s Offices. Moderating the panel will be Adam Wenner, former career law clerk to U.S. District Court Judge Nancy G. Edmunds, Eastern District of Michigan; and Shannon Duggan, former law clerk to U.S. District Court Judge Gerald J. Pappert, Eastern District of Pennsylvania.

FBA members can attend the online event for free; non-members pay $11. To register, visit www.fbamich.org and click on “events.”
