The Ambassador Bridge announced Thursday that it will temporarily continue to offer free tolls on all passenger vehicles in an effort to help reunite travelers with their families. The announcement comes after the Canadian border opened to fully vaccinated, non-essential, non-commercial vehicles on August 9.
Since May 21, 2020, the Ambassador Bridge has eliminated the cost of tolls for essential workers crossing into the United States and Canada to show appreciation of their hard work and sacrifice throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. To date, the Ambassador Bridge and The Canadian Transit Company, a Moroun Family Company, has provided more than $5 million in free tolls for travelers.
Now that the Canadian border has opened to fully vaccinated, non-essential travelers, the Ambassador Bridge is temporarily extending the free toll program to cover passenger vehicles of all eligible travelers so they too will have the opportunity to cross the border free of charge. The duration of this program depends on future developments and circumstances. The Ambassador Bridge will provide updates as information becomes available
Matthew Moroun, chairman of the Ambassador Bridge said, “After more than a year of being separated from family, friends and loved ones, it’s critical that people have an opportunity to reconnect, and we are happy to help make that happen for the thousands of Canadians and Americans who have been apart for far too long.”
