Honigman’s Herstein appointed to Sphinx board of directors

Carl W. Herstein, a partner in Honigman Miller Schwartz and Cohn LLP’s  Real Estate Department, has been elected to the Board of the Sphinx Organization for a two-year term.  Sphinx is a national non-profit arts and youth development organization based in Detroit and New York City whose mission is to increase the participation of Blacks and Latinos in classical music.

Herstein’s law practice focuses on real estate, real estate finance and real estate tax appeals, interest/usury and equine law.  He is an active member of the Ann Arbor community and currently serves on the University Musical Society Board of Directors, of which he is the immediate past chair.  He is also the Secretary of the Board of Directors for the Michigan Supreme Court Historical Society.  His professional accolades include listings in The Best Lawyers in America (2008-2009), Michigan Super Lawyers (2007-2009) and Who’s Who in American Law.

Herstein received a J.D. from the Yale Law School and a B.A. in Political Science and History from the University of Michigan.

 

2010-2011 WSU Journal of Law in Society Board announced

Wayne State University Law School congratulates 11 students recently elected to The Journal of Law in Society 2010-2011 Board.

Students elected to the 2010-2011 Board include: Editor-in-Chief Jason Eggert; Managing Editor Heather Amico; Symposium Director Julianna Rivera; Reviewing Editor Ahmad Chehab; Business Editor Amy Bartold; Public Relations Director Aaron Silvenis; Article Editors Paul Isso and Rachel Reed; Note Editors Jessica Domke, Josh Lushnat and Bethany Stawasz.

“My congratulations to the new members of The Journal of Law in Society Board,” said Wayne Law Dean Robert M. Ackerman. “The outgoing Board has really advanced The Journal as an important scholarly voice, and I am confident that the new Board will be equally effective. I look forward to working with them.”

The incoming Board will officially begin its tenure on the first Monday following Commencement in May.

The Journal of Law in Society was established by Wayne Law students in 1997 to provide for the scholarly evaluation of the law in relation to various segments of society. The Journal addresses social policy issues in a legal context, with participation from legal scholars, jurists, practitioners and students.

The Journal is managed and edited by Wayne Law students. Membership is limited to students who participate in a competitive write-on process held each year during May and June. The Journal is published twice annually during the academic year.
