Dickinson Wright  attorney to present at LEAVE A LEGACY event
Dickinson Wright PLLC Trusts and Estates attorney Henry M. Grix will present at the annual LEAVE A LEGACY Program’s Development Day, a day of networking and skill building for professionals who are engaged in the nonprofit sector.

Development Day will take place June 3 at the Fairlane Club in Dearborn, Michigan, from 8:15 a.m. to 4 p.m.  According to LEAVE A LEGACY, Development Day offers a year’s worth of the insight and advice nonprofit development professionals need to be successful.  Top national and regional experts — including Grix, who will speak on Charitable Lead Trusts — will convene to discuss the latest tips, trends and tax rules for planned giving that affect nonprofit organizations and donors.

Grix is a member in the Dickinson Wright’s Bloomfield Hills office and focuses his practice on estate planning, trusts and taxation. He received his undergraduate and J.D. degrees from the University of Michigan and is a Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel. He also served as a former Chair on the Probate and Estate Planning Council of the State Bar of Michigan, Probate and Estate Planning Section.  He has been named to the Michigan Super Lawyers and the Best Lawyers in America lists, and was named the “Detroit Area Best Lawyers Trusts and Estates Lawyer of the Year” for 2010.

Bar associations host private tour of exhibit
On Wednesday, June 2, the Association of Black Judges of Michigan (ABJM), Wolverine Bar Association (WBA), D. Augustus Straker Bar Association, and the Black Women Lawyers Association (BWLA) will host a private reception and tour of “Through African Eyes” at the Detroit Institute of Arts at 6 p.m.

This exhibition explores the ways African artists have represented and interpreted the complex relationships between Africans and Europeans—and later, Americans—over the past 500 years.

Dr. Nii Quarcoopome, DIA’s curator of African Art, will introduce his new exhibition. His talk will offer insights into the multiple ways African cultures and artists have reacted to Europeans over the last five centuries.

Cost for the reception and tour is $10 a person. For additional information, contact Rosemarie L. Giffen, manager of Major Gifts, Detroit Institute of Arts, at (313) 494-523.
