Retirement party planned for Oakland County judge
Eugene Arthur Moore, chief judge of the Oakland County Probate Court, will be honored Wednesday, Nov. 17 at a retirement party in the Birmingham Community House.

The event will run from 5-7:30 p.m. and will serve as a farewell tribute to the 44-year member of the Oakland County bench. Fittingly, the cost of a ticket to the party is $44. Checks should be made payable to Judge Eugene A. Moore Retirement Party, and sent to Barry L. Howard, 3910 Telegraph Road, Suite 200, Bloomfield Hills, MI 48302. Call (248) 593-5000 for more information.

A native of Royal Oak, Judge Moore was elected to the Oakland County Probate bench in 1966, and has served as chief judge on three separate occasions. A 1957 graduate of the University of Michigan, Judge Moore earned his law degree from the U-M and spent six years in private practice before being elected to judicial office.

Last June, the Oakland County Bar Association presented Judge Moore with the Distinguished Public Servant Award, an honor recognizing his “superior dedication to the OCBA, legal community, and the general public.”

UDM Law Project SALUTE to appear in Veterans Day program
The University of Detroit Mercy School of Law’s national Veterans Law Clinic, Project SALUTE, will be profiled on a special Veterans Day program called “Tribute to our Troops” on Fox 2 Detroit on Thursday at 11:30 a.m. and 6 p.m.  The story will also air on Christmas Day at 6:30 p.m.

Project SALUTE of UDM Law is on a unique mission, hitting the highways to provide free legal advice to low income veterans who need assistance with their claims for federal veterans’ disability and pension benefits.  The UDM Law students involved in Project SALUTE see in a very real way how the law can be used to assist persons in need.  This training and experience inculcate in many students a desire to pursue lifelong pro-bono service as part of their legal career.

Since February 2008, students, faculty, and Project SALUTE staff have toured Michigan and the country in two General Motors Corporation recreational vehicles custom designed and built to be Mobile Law Offices (MLOs).  Project SALUTE’s national MLO has traveled more than 60,000 miles to 21 states.

Along the way, Project SALUTE is also developing a national network of pro-bono attorneys to continue to provide free legal services to the men and women who have served our country.
