Nominations sought for MDTC section’s annaul Golden Gavel Award
The Michigan Defense Trial Counsel is currently accepting nominations for the Seventh Annual Young Lawyers Section Golden Gavel Award, which will be presented on Friday May 20, 2011 during the MDTC Awards Banquet at the Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort in Mt. Plesant.

Nominations, with particular emphasis on the enumerated criteria, are welcome along with letters of recommendation from any source which supports the candidate.
Candidates need not be a current member of the Michigan Defense Trial Counsel, however, each must be a member in good standing with the State Bar of Michigan, and serve as defense counsel.

Bodman attorney appointed to board of Detroit Institute of Ophthalmology
James T. Heimbuch, a partner in Bodman LLP’s Detroit office, has been appointed to the board of directors of the Detroit Institute of Ophthalmology.

Heimbuch, who has been recognized by Michigan Super Lawyers as a leading practitioner in banking law and also has extensive experience in labor and employment law, has a long history of service to charitable, civic, and professional organizations.

In addition to serving on the board of the Detroit Institute of Ophthalmology, Heimbuch serves on board of Leadership Detroit, on the Citizens Advisory Committee of Wayne County Juvenile Court and County Executive, and is co-chair of the board of directors of the Detroit Metropolitan Bar Association Foundation.  He is past president of the Detroit Metropolitan Bar Association and served on the board of directors of the Detroit Regional Chamber of Commerce.

The Detroit Institute of Ophthalmology provides opportunities to prevent blindness through ophthalmic research.

OCBA to host a video viewing marathon of past luncheon series
The Oakland County Bar Association (OCBA) will host a Video Viewing Marathon – A Brown Bag Lunch Lecture Series featuring the past videos from “Anatomy of a Criminal Case – Years XI & XII.” The videos that will be replayed on Monday, Dec. 13, will be “Abuse & Neglect Cases in Family Court” presented by Lisa Neilson and “Felony Child Support” presented by Timothy P. Flynn. The cost is $20 per video. The first video will run from 10:30 a.m. to noon and the second video will run from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Attendees need to arrive within 15 minutes of the start of the presentation to receive credit. Pre-registration is recommended as seating is limited. Attendees are asked to bring their own lunch and popcorn will be provided. For additional information, call (248) 334-3400.
