CLS to hold Lenten Evening of Reflection
   The Catholic Lawyer Society will hold its annual Lenten Evening of Reflection March 16 at Sacred Heart Major Seminary.
   Dinner will be held at 6:15 p.m., followed by the featured speaker, Dr. Edward Peters, the Edmund Cardinal Szoka Chair in Faculty Development and professor of Canon Law at Sacred Heart Seminary.
   Peters was named a Referendarius  of the Apostolic Signatura by Pope Benedict XVI. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from St.   Louis University, a law degree from the University of Missouri and a Doctorate in Canon Law from Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C.

Award nominations sought for  those who preserve state’s history

   LANSING (AP) — The Michigan Historical Commission is accepting nominations for the Gov. John B. Swainson Award for public workers who have gone beyond their job description to help preserve the state’s history.
   The commission is accepting nominations through April 1, and the annual award is open to municipal, county and state employees.
   The commission created the award in 1996 in honor of the governor, legislator and judge.
   Democrat John Swainson died in 1994. He was elected governor in 1960. He narrowly lost his bid for a second term to Republican George Romney in 1962, then served as a Wayne County circuit judge and won a seat on the Michigan Supreme Court in 1970.

ISIAL to host 15th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Brunch March 13
   Clad in their Irish finery with matching shamrock ties and socks, the Incorporated Society of Irish-American Lawyers will host its 15th annual St. Patrick’s Day Brunch on Sunday, March 13, at Mario’s Restaurant in Detroit, located at 4222 Second Ave., from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Shuttles to the parade will be provided for a small fee.
   Tickets for the brunch are $30 for adults; $28 for law student members; and $10 for children under 12 if reserved in advance. Otherwise, tickets can be purchased at the door but will be $35 for adults. Legal Aid and Defender Association free clinic
   Legal Aid and Defender Association will hold a free legal aid clinic for income eligible residents under 60 years of age who qualify for services on Friday, March 11, from 9 a.m. to noon at Oakland Livingston Human Services located at 345 East Nine Mile Road in Ferndale.
