Honigman attorney addresses health organization’s board
Linda S. Ross, a partner and chair of the Health Care Department at Honigman Miller Schwartz and Cohn, recently addressed health organization board members attending the Excellence in Governance Fellowship program of the Michigan Health and Hospital Association (MHA). Her presentation was entitled “Hospital/Physician Relationships and the Law…What Every Board Member Must Know.”
She addressed such topics as hospital/physician alignment, physician practice acquisitions, employment agreements, social media, Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs), and other health reform opportunities and challenges.
In her practice, Ross represents hospitals, physicians and other health care systems and providers. She also advises health care providers about compliance matters.
She earned a J.D., magna cum laude, from Wayne State University Law School and is a member of the Order of the Coif. Ross received an M.S. in Dental Public Health from Boston University and a B.S. in Dental Hygiene from the University of Michigan.
State Supreme Court overturns major environmental decision
DETROIT (AP) — The Michigan Supreme Court’s new conservative majority has reversed a major decision that expanded the ability to sue the state in some environmental disputes.
The case involved the discharge of partially contaminated water to a popular trout stream. In December, the court’s liberal majority used the case to give more rights to people to challenge state regulators over certain environmental permits.
But in an order released Tuesday, the court’s four conservative justices overturned that decision. They said the case was moot and should not have been heard last year because Merit Energy had dropped plans to use the AuSable River.
Experts had predicted such an outcome after the fall election put conservatives back in power on the Supreme Court.
