LL.M. Master’s Thesis Workshop at Wayne Law
Wayne State University Law School is conducting a LL.M. Master’s Thesis Workshop on Friday, Aug. 31, from noon to 2 p.m. in Room 1244 of the Damon J. Keith Center.
One of the requirements for graduating from the LL.M. program is completing an extensive research paper called the “Master’s Essay.” The main purpose of the workshop is to make clear what the expectations are as far as length, depth, and originality. Faculty regulations that apply with respect to deadlines, the role of the faculty advisor, and the relationship between thesis essay and seminars, independent studies, and other written work will also be covered.

State of the Court Luncheon
The Federal Bar Association kicks off its 2012-13 luncheon series with the annual “State of the Court Luncheon” in the Woodward Ballroom of the Westin Book Cadillac Hotel on Friday, Sept, 14, at 1114 Washington Blvd. in Detroit. An 11:30 a.m. reception and noon lunch are planned. Featured speaker will be Chief Judge Gerald E. Rosen with the “State of the Court” address. Cost is $25 for members and $35 for non-members. Law firm sponsorship opportunities are still available for the opening luncheon and the three luncheons in the series that will be held in the coming months. Canton group plans its 3rd Veterans’ Summit
Attorneys and advocates may earn required continuing education credits at the Canton Community Foundation’s 3rd Annual Veterans’ Summit on Wednesday, Sept. 12. The training is part of the annual two-day Veterans’ Summit. The first day, Sept. 12, is devoted to continuing education training and the second day, Sept. 13, is  for veterans to learn about VA benefits. Both days will be at the Laurel Manor Banquet & Conference Center, 39000 Schoolcraft Road in Livonia. Attorneys, advocates, veteran service offices and Michigan county counselors who want updated information about VA benefits are invited to the Wednesday, Sept. 12, program from 1 to 4:30 p.m. The fee is $150 for attorneys or Veterans Affairs Accredited Claims Agents and for  veteran services officers or Michigan county counselors, attendance is free. Registration is required at www.cantonfoundation.org or by calling 734-495-1200.

Holiday Hours
The Wayne County Clerk’s Office will be closed on Monday, Sept. 3 in observance of Labor Day.
The Third Circuit Court Civil, Criminal and Family Divisions will be closed Sept. 3 in observance of Labor Day.
The Wayne County Probate Court will be closed in observance of Labor Day on Monday, Sept. 3 and will reopen Tuesday, Sept. 4 at 8 a.m.
In observance of Labor Day, the 36th District Court will be closed to the public on Monday, Sept. 3. Only arraignments will be conducted.
