Michigan Defense Quarterly seeking article submissions
The Michigan Defense Quarterly is published every January, April, July and October.  The Quarterly is sent to all circuit and appellate judges, all federal trial and appellate judges, all Michigan legislators who are attorneys, and several members of the executive branch. It also goes to selected business groups and professional organizations. This makes the Quarterly an effective way for an attorney to share expertise with decision-makers and make themselves known to peers and potential clients.  Authors also receive a copy of the article in pdf format to distribute to potential and existing clients.  Articles are usually six to 10 pages long, double spaced. Authors do not need to be a member to submit an article.
Anyone interested in submitting an article, should contact editor Lee Khachaturian or info@mdtc.org.

Snyder signs bills to form special business and veterans courts

Gov. Rick Snyder has signed bills to create special courts to handle business disputes where more than $25,000 is at stake and cases involving veterans with mental health or substance abuse problems.
Snyder’s office says the bills were among a number that the governor signed Tuesday.
He says the specialized courts “address specific needs in our judicial system, streamlining the court process and maximizing efficiency.”
Snyder’s office says he also signed bills simplifying the process of fixing small errors in deeds and mortgages; permitting the exporting of minnows, wigglers and crayfish as bait; requiring courts to share resources; giving veterans free hunting and fishing licenses; permitting the carrying of unloaded and uncased firearms at sporting clays ranges; and letting authorities do criminal background checks on transportation workers.
