Firm to host ABA Woman Advocate Committee’s Regional Networking Gathering
Butzel Long’s Women’s Leadership Committee is the Michigan host for the American Bar Association’s (ABA) Woman Advocate Committee’s Regional Networking brown bag lunch program at noon on Thursday, March 21, at the firm’s offices in Ann Arbor, Bloomfield Hills, and Detroit. All female attorneys are invited to attend the program to discuss gender issues in the profession.
The program will include a special telephonic address from internationally-known speaker Carol Frohlinger of Negotiating Women, Inc., co-author of “Her Place at the Table” and “Nice Girls Just Don’t Get It.” Frohlinger will speak about second generation gender issues, the powerful barriers to women’s advancement and more.
“We are very excited to again host this important event simultaneously in our Ann Arbor, Bloomfield Hills and Detroit offices,” said attorney Robin Luce Herrmann, a member of Butzel Long’s Women’s Leadership Committee. “It is an excellent opportunity for female attorneys to network with each other.”

The 313 Project awarded $25K grant from Home Depot
Receiving nearly 9,000 votes on Facebook, The 313 Project has won Home Depot's “Aprons in Action” $25,000 grant for the month of January.Founded in 2009 as a law student coalition, The 313 Project is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit connecting the legal community to Detroit's underserved areas through pro bono, service, and educational initiatives.
“Every vote and email of support made all the difference,” said co-director and attorney Erika Riggs. “We look forward to engaging our volunteers to use the grant money towards initiatives that will improve Detroit and conditions for homeless veterans and their communities.” Improvements made with the grant award will include working on transitional housing for homeless veterans, renovating Detroit buildings for pro bono clinics, and maintaining Romanowski Park, a community space named in honor of Southwest Detroit U.S. veterans. In February of 2013, the City of Detroit moved to close over 50 city parks, including Romanowski.
“We do not plan to stop volunteering at Romanowski Park because we simply cannot risk losing the proactive developments stemming from its rejuvenation,” said 313 Project co-founder and attorney Aisa Villarosa Berg.
From May 1 to May 31, The 313 Project will compete against 11 other nonprofits who have previously won the “Aprons in Action” monthly grant for a Home Depot $250,000 grand prize grant.The runner up organization receives $150,000 and the second runner up receives $100,00. Voting will once again take place on Facebook and the winners will be based on popular votes.
