Ex-Michigan high court justice may serve prison time in W.Va.

DETROIT (AP) — A judge is recommending that a former Michigan Supreme Court justice follow Martha Stewart's footsteps and serve her fraud sentence at a minimum security prison in West Virginia.
Alderson in Alderson, W.Va., more recently housed ex-Detroit City Council member Monica Conyers, wife of U.S. Rep. John Conyers.
Ann Arbor federal Judge John Corbett O’Meara is recommending Alderson for Diane Hathaway, who was sentenced last week to a year and a day in prison for bank fraud. She hid assets and misled a bank while trying to negotiate a short sale on her Grosse Pointe Park home.
Judges regularly make prison recommendations, but placement is up to the government.
