The Old Newsboys’ Goodfellow Fund of Detroit will honor Peter Karmanos, Jr., Compuware’s Co-Founder at the charity’s 24th annual Tribute Breakfast, September 20 at Cobo Center. Karmanos will receive the Edward H. McNamara Goodfellow of the Year Award at the 8 AM event. The “Great Voice of the Great Lakes” WJR, a major sponsor of the event, will broadcast portions of the breakfast live during The Paul W. Smith Show.
The Edward H. McNamara Award is a prestigious honor presented to distinguished and noteworthy individuals who have significantly contributed to the community. Karmanos has been an integral part of Detroit’s business culture while also helping the city’s people through numerous charitable initiatives.
“Peter Karmanos has been a vital part of Detroit’s fabric for many years contributing to both the business sector as well as within the community,” said Frank Brady, president, Detroit Goodfellows. “Recognizing him with the Edward H. McNamara Goodfellow of the Year Award is an honor for our organization.”
Previous recipients of the Edward H. McNamara Goodfellow of the Year Award include American real estate developer and Michigan philanthropist A. Alfred Taubman; internationally acclaimed singer-songwriter, philanthropist and native Detroiter Kid Rock and Kid Rock Foundation; President and Chief Executive Officer of Ford Motor Company Alan Mulally; Detroit broadcast legend Dick Purtan and his wife Gail; UAW President Ron Gettelfinger; Judge Damon Keith; Mayor Dave Bing; Detroit Tigers Manager Sparky Anderson; Governor Jennifer Granholm and First Gentleman Dan Mulhern; and, Lisa and William Clay Ford.
As part of this year’s Tribute Breakfast, the Detroit Goodfellows will introduce all new members recruited through the charity’s “Challenge 100” campaign, which tasked current members to recruit at least 100 new supporters.
Tickets for the 24th annual Tribute Breakfast are $150 or $1,500 for a table of 10. There are also special $5,000 Santa Circle tables available. Additional corporate sponsorships are also available.
Revenue raised at the benefit event will go toward the Detroit Goodfellows’ 2013 fundraising goal of $1.2 million, which will help provide 35,000 holiday gift packages containing clothing, books, candy and toys for needy children in Detroit, Highland Park, Harper Woods and River Rouge and Hamtramck.
