 SBM?Representative Assembly accepting nominations for awards

Nominations are being accepted for two State Bar of Michigan Representative Assembly awards. The Michael Franck Award is given annually to an attorney who has made an outstanding contribution to the improvement of the legal profession. The Unsung Hero Award is presented to a lawyer who has exhibited the highest standards of practice and commitment for the benefit of others.

Nominees for both awards must be State Bar members in good standing and their contributions may have been made either during the past year or by virtue of cumulative effort or service. Materials submitted should include sufficient details about the nominee’s accomplishments. The Assembly’s Nominating and Awards Committee will review the applications and make awards recommendations to the Representative Assembly. The Representative Assembly, chaired by Kathleen Allen, is the final policy-making body of the State Bar.
 
The nomination deadline is Friday, March 14. Online applications are accepted at www.michbar.org/programs/eventsawards.cfm. Nominations can also be mailed to: Anne M. Smith, Representative Assembly Awards, State Bar of Michigan, 306 Townsend Street, Lansing, 48933-2012.

Nemeth Law attorneys discuss timely issues concerning employment 

Attorneys with Detroit-based management side labor and employment law firm Nemeth Law, P.C., have been active recently in leading discussions on a variety of employment law topics in Michigan, Ohio and Connecticut. 
 
 At the Nemeth Law Raising the Bar series on Jan. 22, Terry Bonnette, a partner in the firm, and senior attorney Cliff Hammond presented the 2014 labor and employment law update, helping employers remain in compliance as the new year gets underway

Patricia Nemeth, founder of Nemeth Law, P.C., Bonnette and attorney Erin Behler  presented Sex and Gender in the Workplace to  industry trade groups in Connecticut on Nov. 6, 2013 and Jan. 14, 2014. The discussion centered on trends and developments in equal employment opportunity law and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission’s 2013-2016 Strategic Enforcement Plan.

Bonnette presented Workplace Violence for clients of the Hylant Group in Troy, Mich. on Nov. 15; in Novi, Mich. on Nov. 14; and in Ypsilanti, Mich. on Nov. 11, 2013

Bonnette presented Social Media at the Michigan Chapter of National Association Directors of Nursing Administration (MI-NADONA) at the MotorCity Casino in Detroit on Nov. 8, 2013.
 

Wayne Law hosts young alumni mixer Jan. 29

 
Wayne State Law School young alumni present the Young Alumni Professionals Mixer on Wednesday, Jan. 29, from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. at the Black Finn, 530 S. Main Street in Royal Oak.
