Attorney recognized by the National LGBT Bar

The National Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Bar Association has selected Elliot Stultz, senior vice president, assistant secretary and deputy general counsel of Allstate Insurance Company to receive its Out & Proud Corporate Counsel Award during a February 6 reception at Chicago’s Metropolitan Club. The LGBT Bar is proud to honor attorneys and corporations that advocate for LGBT equality within the legal sphere through the Out & Proud Corporate Counsel Awards program.

Stultz is the executive sponsor of Allstate’s LGBT resource group, ANGLES (Allstate Network of Gay and Lesbian Employees and Supporters). ANGLES includes approximately 200 members from Allstate’s offices across the country, with membership steadily increasing each year. In 2012, the group sponsored a presentation for Allstate employees by Judy Shepard, mother of slain Wyoming college student Matthew Shepard, about the LGBT community and hate crimes legislation. Additionally, ANGLES hosted an event focusing on the business impact of the then-impending Supreme Court decisions on the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA).

“Elliot is a leader both within Allstate and Chicago’s lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community,” said D’Arcy Kemnitz, executive director of The LGBT Bar. “His work raising awareness about critical issues impacting the community is impressive, and his leadership on these issues within Allstate has helped the company cement its reputation as a leader with LGBT employees and consumers. We’re excited to recognize him with our highest honor for corporate counsel attorneys.”

In addition to his work at Allstate, Stultz is also an active member of the Chicago LGBT community. He serves as Secretary of the Board of Directors for the Center on Halsted, an LGBT community center. The Center provides programs and services for the LGBT community including performances, classes and group therapy sessions.  Stultz has also spoken on a number of panels related to LGBT issues, lending his expertise to a variety of issues that affect LGBT employees in the corporate sphere.

The Out & Proud Corporate Counsel Award will be presented on Thursday, February 6 at a reception in Chicago. Contact Kelly Simon at (202) 637-7661 or Kelly@LGBTbar.org for additional information.
