Trott & Trott, raises $3,900 for Gleaners Community Food Bank
Trott & Trott, P.C. (Trott), a Farmington Hills, Mich.-based real estate law firm, announced today that the firm has raised $3,900 to benefit Gleaners Community Food Bank of Southeastern Michigan as part of the company’s yearlong corporate giving campaign.
Trott employees contributed funds to support the organization’s Detroit distribution center, helping Gleaners in its mission of supplying food to 550 partner soup kitchens, shelters and pantries in Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, Livingston and Monroe counties. In total, Trott employees donated $1,950 to the cause, while the firm provided a company match to bring the grand total to $3,900.
“Through our employees’ generous donations, 11,700 meals can now be purchased to feed those in need throughout our local community,” said Trott Managing Partner Jeffrey Raff. “Each of our corporate giving initiatives focus on improving the quality of life for many in our area, and it was a pleasure to partner with Gleaners Community Food Bank of Southeastern Michigan to kick off our 2014 campaign.”
The Gleaners initiative is the first in Trott’s annual corporate giving program, which previously benefited other local charities, including American Cancer Society, Oakland Family Services and Starfish Family Services.
Cooley to host training session on state’s new sentencing procedures
On June 1, 2014, Michigan will begin using Correctional Offender Management Profiling for Alternative Sanctions (COMPAS) at all criminal sentencing hearings. COMPAS is a computerized assessment and case management system intended to inform sentencing discretion in terms of the rehabilitation and supervision needs of an offender in the community. Cooley Law School in collaboration with the Criminal Defense Resource Center will hold a training session for criminal defense attorneys, probation agents, prosecutors and judges to learn about the new procedure.
The training session will be conducted by Jacqueline McCann, assistant defender with the State Appellate Defender Office and author of Defender Sentencing Book.
The seminar will be held at Cooley’s Auburn Hills Campus, but live simulcasts will be available at Cooley’s campuses in Ann Arbor, Grand Rapids and Lansing. The Silent Witness project is coming to Wayne State University
In conjunction with the annual Take Back the Night event, the international Silent Witness project is coming to the Wayne State University campus the week of April 21-25. Silent Witness is the visual representation of victims of domestic violence. Individual, life-sized red figures representing men, women and children murdered in acts of domestic violence in Michigan will be on display around campus. Each figure includes breastplate shields sharing each victim’s name and story.
