Entrepreneur training program kicks off in Detroit

DETROIT (AP) — The University of Michigan Center for Entrepreneurship and the nonprofit NextEnergy are on Tuesday kicking off a training program for entrepreneurs seeking to help commercialize energy and transportation technologies.
Workshops were developed for I-Corps Energy and Transportation training with input from industry leaders, investors and other entrepreneurs. Teams of entrepreneurs will present their ideas to the panel of industry leaders on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
The training program is designed "as a springboard for moving new ideas out of the lab and into the market," organizers said in a statement.
The teams will participate in the workshops as well as market-specific training and mentorship. Those involved in the effort include government officials, economic development professionals and people who started energy and transportation businesses.
The program runs through mid-June.
The Michigan Economic Development Corp., Growth Capital Network, Clean Energy Trust and Huron River Ventures also are involved.
I-Corps stands for Innovation Corps, and Michigan I-Corps is modeled after the National Science Foundation's National I-Corps program. NextEnergy works with businesses on research involving alternative and renewable energy, seeking to boost investment in the state.
