Gov. Rick Snyder last week announced the appointment of Mark S. Braunlich to the 38th Circuit Court in Monroe County.
“The Braunlich family is highly regarded in Monroe, and Mark has continued its tradition of public service. Mark is more than an excellent attorney and fine judge – he is an integral part of Monroe. I am confident that the integrity and professionalism he has displayed as a district judge will continue in his service on the Circuit Court,” Snyder said.
Braunlich has served as district judge in Monroe County since 2003 and as the chief judge from 2008-2010. Prior to his election to the court, Braunlich served as a Monroe County assistant prosecuting attorney and operated his own law firm, where he served as the attorney for the Monroe County Board of Commissioners.
Braunlich is currently the board president for the Monroe Center for Healthy Aging. He is also a member and past president of the Monroe County Bar Association, the Knight of Columbus, and the Fraternal Order of Police. He has been active with the United Way and the Monroe County Mental Health Board. Braunlich earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Notre Dame and a law degree from the University of Toledo.
He fills the vacancy created by the resignation of Judge Michael LaBeau. He must seek election in November 2016 to complete the current term and will then need to run for a full term in 2018.
