Two Wayne Law alum named ‘Top Young Lawyers’ by DBusiness
Two of the six Top Young Lawyers named by DBusiness magazine for 2015 are alumni of Wayne State University Law School.
Ebony Duff, class of 2002, is a shareholder with Garan Lucow Miller of Detroit, worked as a legal secretary after graduation from the University of Michigan and knew then that she wanted to be a lawyer. She’s the city attorney for Oak Park, where she grew up; counsel for Detroit Entertainment LLC, specifically MotorCity Casino; and general counsel for the Detroit Regional Convention Facility Authority, which operates Cobo Center.
Jennifer Green, class of 2005, a member with Clark Hill of Detroit, is a commercial litigation attorney who represented the city’s retirement system in Detroit Chapter 9 bankruptcy proceedings. She grew up in Gladwin and knew from a young age that she wanted to be a lawyer. She earned her bachelor’s degree at Western Michigan University and worked as an undergraduate as an intern for the late Justice Elizabeth Weaver of the Michigan Supreme Court.
The magazine’s Top Young Lawyers are selected from nominations made by readers and Detroit metropolitan area lawyers.
Judge Strong inducted into NBA’s Hall of Fame
Third Circuit Court Judge Craig S. Strong was inducted into the National Bar Association’s Hall of Fame at the National Bar Association’s (NBA) 90th Annual Convention in Los Angeles, California on July 20. The NBA is the oldest nationwide association of predominantly African-American Law. It has 84 affiliates and more than 65,000 members including lawyers, judges, educators, and law students.
Strong is a life member of the NBA. He has served on its Board of Governors and was the Region VI director, and served as special assistant to President Carl Character. He attended his first NBA convention in 1973. Five years later, he was elected Judge of Recorder’s Court and joined the NBA’s Judicial Council where he has held several offices and was elected chair. A retired commander of the U.S. Navy Reserve, Strong was a member of the Military Law Section and a liaison between the Section and the Judicial Council. His legacy includes being a member of the first NBA Delegation to South Africa and being honored by the Delos Davis Law Society of Toronto and the Canadian Association of Black Lawyers for promoting a closer relationship with their American counterparts.
Strong has served on the bench since 1979 and his local contributions include his tenure as the president of the Wolverine Bar and vice president of Wayne County Neighborhood Legal Services.
