Snyder appoints Hinnant-Johnson to 36th District Court
Gov. Rick Snyder Wednesday announced the appointment of Adrienne Hinnant-Johnson, of Detroit, to the 36th District Court in the city of Detroit.
“Adrienne Hinnant-Johnson is a hard-working attorney with extensive experience practicing in the 36th District Court,” Snyder said. “Her work ethic and knowledge will be a great asset in this busy court.”
Johnson has been in private practice since 2006, when she began her legal career in the Detroit area. The focus of her practice has been on criminal law, landlord/tenant and general civil matters.
Johnson serves as the board chair for the Institute for Population Health, Inc. and is a member of the Detroit branch of the NAACP. She earned a bachelor’s degree in finance from the University of Tennessee and a law degree from Howard University School of Law. Johnson is married to Sean Johnson and they have one son, Joshua.
Johnson fills the seat vacated by Judge Brenda Sanders. She must seek election in November 2016 for the balance of the term expiring January 1, 2021.
‘Paradigm Shift’ topic of Nov. 12th program
Lt. Governor Brian Calley will be among the featured speakers at a November 12 program at the Auburn Hills campus of Western Michigan University Cooley Law School.
The program, titled “Paradigm Shift: Changing Law and Education to Better Support Addiction Recovery,” will take place from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Cooley, according to Professor Lauren Rousseau, who is spearheading plans for the event.
“Lieutenant Governor Brian Calley will be our closing speaker,” said Rousseau. “We are very excited about this, since he chairs Governor Snyder’s Prescription Drug & Opiate Abuse Task Force, which just released its recommendations last Monday. We are very excited to hear what Lieutenant Governor Calley has to say about these recommendations and where Michigan goes from here.”

“This unique conference will focus on improving addition recovery support within our criminal justice and educational systems,” said Rousseau, a University of Michigan Law School grad who teaches civil procedure at Cooley. “The conference will feature many high-profile speakers, including Lieutenant Governor Calley; Craig DeRoche, former speaker of the House of Representatives and executive director of the Justice Fellowship in Washington, D.C.; and Michael Johnson, founder of Justice/Quade Recovery Institute.”
