Holiday Hours


The 36th District Court will be closed Thursday, Dec. 24 through Jan. 4, 2016, in observance of the holiday season. The court will be open Monday, Dec. 28, Tuesday Dec. 29, and Wednesday Dec. 30 for essential services only: Criminal - Preliminary examinations (held at FMHJ); Traffic - New case filings (drop off of tickets); Landlord-Tenant Division: Emergency eviction stays.

All offices of the United States District Court and the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Michigan will be CLOSED on Friday, Dec. 25, for the Christmas holiday and on Friday, Jan.1, for the New Year’s holiday. In case of emergency, call 313-234-5656.

The Michigan Supreme Court, the Court of Appeals, and the State Court Administrative Office (SCAO) will be closed on Thursday and Friday, Dec. 24-25, for the Christmas holiday and on Thursday and Friday, Dec. 31-Jan.1, for the New Year’s holiday.

The Third Circuit Court Civil, Criminal and Family Divisions will be closed Thursday, Dec. 24 and Friday Dec. 25 in observance of Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

On Monday, Dec. 28, Tuesday, Dec. 29 and Wednesday Dec. 30, the court will be open for essential services only, including criminal arraignments, probation violation and failure to appear warrants, personal protection orders, parental waivers, and other emergency civil and family division matters. The County Clerk’s office will be open to accept civil and domestic relations pleadings and new case filings from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on those days.

 

Passing of the gavel ceremony in District Court set for Jan. 28
 

A Special Session of United States District Court will be held  Thursday, Jan. 28, to commemorate the “passing of the gavel” from Chief Judge Gerald E. Rosen to Judge Denise Page Hood. The ceremony will take place at 3  p.m. in Courtroom 100 of the Theodore Levin U.S. Courthouse, 231 West Lafayette Boulevard, Detroit, with a reception to immediately follow in Room 115. All are welcome to attend.

 

WLAM yoga, shopping outing set for January 14 in Birmingham
 

Women Lawyers of Michigan members and guests can start the New Year off right with a night of shopping and a guided yin yoga class on Thursday, Jan. 14, from 6–8 p.m. at Capsule Detroit, 574 N. Old Woodward Ave. #200, Birmingham. The yoga class will begin around 6:30 p.m. with shopping before and after the class. Seventh Annual Kaye Tertzag Tribute Dinner scheduled for Feb. 25


Family and friends of the Hon. Kaye Tertzag will host the seventh annual Tertzag Tribute Dinner on Thursday, Feb. 25 at the Park Place Banquet Hall in Dearborn from 5:30-9:30 p.m. The Tertzag Tribute Dinner Committee announced that the 2016 recipient of the Purple Sport Coat Award is attorney Dana Nessel.
