University of Detroit Mercy School of Law hosted its 18th McElroy Lecture on Law and Religion on Wednesday, March 16, on the topic of “Religious Exemptions in Same-Sex Marriages.” Speaking at the lecture was Columbia Law School Professor Kent Greenwalt (front row, far left). Also commenting on the topic were Michael Moreland (back row, center), professor at Villanova University Charles Widger School of Law and concurrent professor at University of Notre Dame Law School; along with Andrew Koppleman (back row, right), the John Paul Stevens Professor of Law and professor of Political Science at Northwestern University. Happy to welcome the speakers to Detroit Mercy Law were (back row, left) Assoc. Prof. Kyle Langvardt; (front row, l-r) Assoc. Prof. Julia Belian, Provost/Vice President for Academic Affairs Pamela Zarkowski, and Dean Phyllis Crocker. The McElroy Lecture Series provides a forum for prominent thinkers and leaders to address fundamental issues of religion, law, and society.
