Animal Welfare Award honors MSU Law student Katie Brindle

Kate Brindle is the second consecutive student from MSU Law to receive the Wanda A. Nash Award from the State Bar of Michigan for her exceptional scholarship in the field of animal welfare law.

The award, which is eponymous to the founder of the Animal Law Section of the State Bar, honors the J.D. candidates whom the Bar feels has exhibited the most influential work in animal law over the past year.

This year marks the first time the Animal Law Section has recognized two recipients.  Brindle said, “I am honored to receive the award with my colleague and friend, Alicia Prygoski, from Western Michigan University, Cooley Law School.”

Brindle plans to use her degree to secure greater legal protections for animals. Currently, she serves as president of the Student Animal Legal Defense Fund and is a board member of Attorneys for Animals.  She also was a 2015 finalist and a 2016 semi-finalist at the National Animal Law Moot Court Competition.  Throughout 2016, she has worked as a litigation clerk for the Animal Legal Defense Fund.
