As a part of the 2016 Detroit Entrepreneur Week (DEW), a group of prominent law firms, legal departments, legal practitioners and other professionals are collaborating to present a free Small Business Legal Academy (SBLA16) for Detroit’s entrepreneurs and start-up businesses.
SBLA16 will be at Wayne State University Law School, 471 West Palmer, Detroit, on Saturday, May 7 from 8:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. Advance registration is encouraged at dew16.eventbrite.com. Free parking is available in the surface lot immediately north of the law school.
SBLA16 Detroit will consist of a series of hands-on panels designed to provide practical legal and professional information necessary for new business owners and entrepreneurs to take their businesses to the next level. The panelists will cover legal issues involving real estate, intellectual property, employment, food businesses, funding, social entrepreneurial and non-profit undertakings and accounting and tax issues.
Participants will have the opportunity to interact one-on-one with some of Detroit’s leading professionals. The panelists will not provide legal representation, but will provide direction and general information relevant to early stage businesses and entrepreneurs. There will be extensive opportunity for one on one interaction between the participants and the panelists.
Participating law firms, corporations, and legal organizations include, Bodman PLC, Brooks Kushman, Canvas Legal, Detroit Corporation counsel, Dickinson, Dorn Berden PLLC, Dykema, Honigman, General Motors, Hewlett Packard, Jaffe, Miller Canfield, Morsel Law, Plante Moran, and Michigan Community Resources, among others. Bodman PLC, Brooks Kushman, Dickinson, Dykema, Jaffe, Miller Canfield and Plante Moran are providing financial support for the costs of SBLA16, including the costs of breakfast, lunch and afternoon reception.
