Archer event raises over $70K for community support efforts
On Nov. 16, more than 300 members of Detroit’s legal and business communities turned out to honor Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy during the 12th annual Dennis W. Archer Public Service Award.
The event, hosted by the Detroit Metropolitan Bar Association Foundation, netted over $70,000 for Access to Justice and other community support initiatives. This year’s Archer Award was held at the Belle Isle Casino, with WWJ NewsRadio 950’s Stephanie Davis acting as emcee.
WWJ NewsRadio 950, General Motors, the Michigan Lawyer’s Weekly, and the Detroit Legal News were among the top corporate sponsors for the event, which also drew support from a wide variety of the Detroit area’s premier law firms and other corporations.
“We’re particularly grateful to our sponsors for everything they’ve done, this year and in previous years, to fund our work in the community,” said 2016 Archer Award Committee Co-Chair Kathleen Lang of Dickinson Wright. “and, of course, we were thrilled to have the opportunity to recognize Prosecutor Worthy for her career of exemplary community service.”
Outgoing DMBA Foundation Executive Director Lorraine Weber, who is retiring in December, agreed that Worthy was an excellent choice to win the 12th Archer Award.
“Prosecutor Worthy has served on both sides of the bench with honor and great effectiveness,” Weber said. “She has been a champion for members of our wider community who are too often overlooked by the legal system, including rape victims, senior citizens, and LGBT individuals.”
“With this award, the DMBA Foundation has just joined the host of organizations and individuals who have publicly acknowledged the essential role that Kym Worthy continues to play in insuring that the rule of law serves all our residents equally.”
