Police search judge’s office, home in Livingston County
BRIGHTON, Mich. (AP) — Michigan State Police have searched a judge’s office and home in Livingston County.
Spokeswoman Lori Dougovito declined to say what was seized Wednesday from Judge Theresa Brennan. But she confirms that investigators presented search warrants at her Brighton court and the judge’s home.
A message seeking comment was left with Brennan’s staff and the District Court administrator Thursday.
Dougovito declined to comment on the investigation. The judge has been under scrutiny for an extramarital affair with a state police lieutenant who was the lead investigator in a double homicide.
Jerome Kowalski’s trial was in Brennan’s court in 2013. Kowalski is serving a life sentence. He wants a new trial.
Year later, charge dropped against Flint water official
FLINT, Mich. (AP) — The Michigan attorney general has dropped a misdemeanor charge against a Flint, Michigan, official who cooperated in a criminal investigation of the city’s lead-contaminated water.
Mike Glasgow appeared in court Thursday, a year after pleading no contest to neglect of duty. Prosecutors had indicated last year that he might get a break.
Glasgow was running the water plant in 2014 when Flint dropped out of a regional water system and began using untreated water from the Flint River. The water corroded old lead pipes and fixtures, and poisoned the water supply.
Glasgow had complained to state regulators that the water plant wasn’t ready. He still was accused of failing to perform duties required of a certified water plant operator.
David Guinn named to 67th District Court
Gov. Rick Snyder Thursday announced the appointment of David Guinn to the 67th District Court in Genesee County.
Guinn, a native of Flint, has been an assistant prosecuting attorney in Genesee County since 1997. He is currently assigned to the District Court Division, handling criminal matters. Throughout his career with the prosecutor’s office, he has been assigned to the Family Court Division, the Drug & Asset Forfeiture Division, and the Circuit Court Trial Division, as well as acting as the lead assistant prosecuting attorney on the South Side Task Force. He began his legal career as a law clerk at Becker, Lanctot, McCutchenon.
Guinn is an active member in the Flint community, having served on various boards and committees.
Guinn earned his bachelor’s degree in 1994 from Grand Valley State University and his law degree in 1997 from Ohio Northern University.
Guinn fills the vacancy created by the resignation of Judge Tracy Collier-Nix. He must seek election in November 2018 to be retained for the remaining two years of the term.
