Dinsmore & Shohl LLP welcomes John D. Mackewich to the firm’s Detroit office. Mackewich will practice out of the Corporate and Labor and Employment Departments.

Mackewich comes to Dinsmore from Tomkiw Mackewich, PLC where he focused his practice in the areas of commercial transactions, mergers and acquisitions, securities law and general corporate matters.   Mackewich also counsels clients with regard to executive and employee compensation, employment agreements, stock options, and corporate governance.
Mackewich earned his law degree from the University of Toledo College of Law, and he earned his B.S. in Finance: Securities and Investments from Wayne State University.

Dickinson Wright PLLC is pleased to announce that attorney K. Scott Hamilton has been selected as the 2017 Detroit Bar Legal Scholar by the Detroit Bar Association.

The Detroit Bar Association established the Detroit Bar Legal Scholar Program to recognize each year original legal work product that advances the field of law and offers the application of new ideas that address the social, educational, economic and/or human advancement of the State of Michigan. Hamilton’s paper titled “Urban Homesteading as a Method of Redeveloping Detroit’s Neighborhoods” will be published by the Detroit Bar Association and he was honored at the Detroit Bar Association’s Annual Meeting on June 21 at the Detroit Club.

Hamilton is a member in the firm’s Detroit office. Throughout his career, he has first chaired more than 30 federal and state bench and jury trials and argued over 40 cases in the United States Court of Appeals for the Second, Sixth and Tenth Circuits, the Michigan Supreme Court and the Michigan Court of Appeals. He is co-chairman of the Federal Bar Association for the Eastern District of Michigan’s Appellate Committee and served as an adjunct professor of law (Appellate Practice) at Michigan State University College of Law.

Hamilton is a Fellow of the Michigan State Bar Foundation and is a life member of the Sixth Circuit Judicial Conference. He is also recognized as a leader in his field by Best Lawyers in America, Michigan Super Lawyers, Best’s Directory of Recommended Insurance Lawyers, and DBusiness Top Lawyers. Hamilton received his B.S. from Central Michigan University and his law degree from Wayne State University Law School.

Dickinson Wright PLLC is also pleased to announce that attorney Dan Quick has been reappointed co-chair for the American Bar Association’s Section of Litigation Trial Practice Committee. His term begins on August 11, 2017.

Quick is a member in the firm’s Troy office and is practice department manager for Commercial Litigation, Antitrust & Trade Regulation, and Alternative Dispute Resolution. He is a commercial litigation trial attorney who specializes in business torts (including minority shareholder and “business divorce disputes,” trade secrets, and noncompetes) and all facets of intellectual property litigation. He frequently writes and lectures on business torts and is a coauthor of the national “Trade Secrets” portfolio published by BNA.

Quick is a Fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America and is recognized as a leader in his field by Chambers USA, Best Lawyers in America, Michigan Super Lawyers, and DBusiness. He received the Frances R. Avadenka Community Service Award and the Distinguished Service Award from the Oakland County Bar Association. Quick received his law degree from the University of Michigan Law School.

Bodman PLC

Bodman PLC is pleased to announce that Alexandra C. Markel has joined the firm as an associate attorney and a member of the Litigation and Alternative Dispute Resolution Practice Group.
She will practice in Bodman’s Detroit office, representing clients involved in complex commercial litigation matters.

Before joining Bodman as an associate, Markel worked with the firm as a summer associate. In that role, she gained exposure to the firm’s broad range of clients and legal matters. She has also served as a judicial intern to U.S. District Court Judge Robert Cleland, Eastern District of Michigan. Before beginning her legal career, Markel worked in Washington, D.C. as a government relations analyst for a Houston-based LNG export company.

Markel earned her law degree from the University of Michigan Law School.

Cardelli Lanfear PC proudly announces that Michael O. Smith and Jason T. Newman have been promoted to partners in the firm.

Smith graduated from Michigan State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Accounting and graduated from Wayne State University Law School in 2007.

Newman graduated from Michigan State University with a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering with a Polymer Science Option and graduated from Michigan State University College of Law in 2008. Following law school, Newman served two years as a judicial law clerk for the Missouri Court of Appeals.

Newman started with Cardelli Lanfear in 2011 and his practice focuses primarily in the areas of litigation and intellectual property.  Newman has handled matters in a wide variety of areas including transportation litigation, commercial disputes, and patent and trademark matters. Newman has also been a co-editor of the Michigan Environmental Law Journal for the State Bar of Michigan since 2010.
