Nutshells and Hornbooks now available online through Adams-Pratt Law Library

The Adams-Pratt Oakland County Law Library has purchased the West Academic Reference Collection legal research database. The product provides full-text digital access to the renowned Nutshell and Hornbook series of legal publications. Attorneys and paralegals will be able to use the database to conduct legal research at their office, home, or on their mobile devices at any time through the law library’s website.

The acquisition of the West Academic Reference Collection marks the second legal research database that the Law Library has been able to acquire for its patrons that offers remote access.

“Attorneys have long requested to be able to use the law library’s legal research databases at their office or on their mobile devices,” states Laura Mancini, Director- Library Services. “Libraries in general are able to offer remote database access to their patrons in many subject areas. The legal publishing industry has been slow to embrace this practice.  The law library is delighted that West Academic has brought this new product to the marketplace.
Nutshells and Hornbooks are frequently used research publications and having them available online will only increase their reach. I encourage all attorneys and legal professionals to take advantage of this new tool.”

Attorneys and paralegals who wish to use the West Academic Reference Collection database outside of the law library can access it from the library’s website: http://www.oakgov.com/lawlibrary. An Adams-Pratt Oakland County Law Library card will be required to log into the database. Cards can be obtained in person at the law library, Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Card applications can also be found on the law library’s website: http://www.oakgov.com/lawlibrary/Pages/applications.aspx.

The West Academic Reference Collection database provides legal insights and analysis to legal professionals and any persons who need a deeper understanding of an area of the law. It offers convenient online access to hundreds of Nutshells and Hornbooks which serve as a starting point for legal research by providing dependable introductions to a field of law for 150+ topics. These titles explain the most important issues of law and highlight key cases and statutes.

The Adams-Pratt Oakland County Law Library is located at 1200 North Telegraph Road in Building 14 East. It is on the second floor of the West Wing Extension, which is the five-story glass building attached to the main courthouse.
