36th District Court has new initiative for electronic submission of photos and videos

Recognizing that the inclusion of cell phones on the court’s Prohibited Items List can make it difficult for litigants to present electronic evidence at hearings, Chief Judge Nancy M. Blount has announced a new initiative to ease the process.

Effective Monday, October 15, 2018, litigants may email any photos or videos they wish to have entered into evidence prior to a hearing. This new functionality will increase accessibility and efficiency for the public, security, court staff and the bench.

“Delivering services to the public is the core of what we do,” said Court Administrator Kelli Moore Owen. “We are committed to improving what matters most to all parties involved in litigation and concentrating on enhancing the court user’s experience. Often during landlord-tenant, small claims and even traffic cases, one or more parties say they have taken photos on a cell phone, which they feel will support their case.”

“This is just one of the new initiatives we are developing to meet the needs of the citizens we serve and improve accessibility,” said Blount. “We continue to focus on applying the latest technology to improve efficiency and convenience to the public.”

At least two business days prior to the scheduled hearing, evidence may be emailed to photo.evidence@36thdistrictcourt.org. The 36th District Court is committed to implementing new procedures and technological capabilities in an on-going mission to become more user-friendly.
