Detroit Bar Association Foundation 2021 Virtual Law Day

Law Day is a nationwide celebration of the rule of law, in recognition of how law and the legal process contribute to the freedoms that all Americans share. The Detroit Bar Association and the Third Judicial Circuit Court present this special program for Detroit high school students from local public, private and charter schools.

Law Day presents a unique opportunity for students to interact with judges and attorneys and learn more about legal careers.

Pre-pandemic, the Wayne County Circuit Court and the Detroit Bar Association Foundation hosted a field trip event for students from various local high schools to participate in a pre-assigned essay scholarship competition, an oral argument based upon the essay, and learn about the court system. An in-person Law Day is not possible this year, but the Detroit Bar Association Foundation, in partnership with the Downriver Bar Association, is hosting a VIRTUAL LAW DAY! We will match participating schools with a judge and volunteer attorneys over Zoom to participate in a legal essay scholarship competition and a virtual oral argument in front of the presiding Judge! Prizes will be awarded to the “winning” argument to participating students and to teachers.

Local attorneys to speak at online ‘Evidence Boot Camp’

The Criminal Defense Association of Michigan will present “Evidence Boot Camp A” online as a Zoom program on Thursday, April 15, from 1 to 5 p.m. and Friday, April 16, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. (no one-day registrations allowed).

This program offers hands-on small group skills training.  Attendees do not have to take prior Boot Camps to attend this Boot Camp.  Speaking at the training will be Thomas C. Cranmer and Edward A. Bajoka.

A principal at Miller Canfield, Cranmer is the firm’s Litigation and Dispute Resolution Group co-leader.  With more than 40 years of courtroom experience, his practice focuses on white-collar criminal defense, complex commercial litigation and “bet-the-company” litigation.  Prior to joining the firm, Cranmer served as an assistant prosecuting attorney in Oakland County and an assistant chief of the Criminal Division of the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Michigan.

Bajoka is the lead attorney and founder of Bajoka Law Group PLLC and You Are Home Immigration Law for families. He has represented individuals in almost every type of criminal case from the routine “DUI case” to some of the biggest white-collar criminal cases in state and federal courts.  His immigration practice is focused on those who are facing deportation because of a criminal issue or conviction.

Cost for the training is $240. To register for the training, visit https://cdam.wildapricot.org.
