Rucinski of Alpena named 2013 Civilian of the Year

Michigan State Police (MSP) Director Col. Kriste Kibbey Etue is pleased to announce that Ms. Teresa Rucinski of the MSP Alpena Post is the 2013 recipient of the Floyd R. Bell Jr. Civilian of the Year Award. Rucinski received the award at a special ceremony in Lansing.

The MSP Civilian of the Year award is named in honor of the late Floyd R. Bell Jr., a 42-year employee of the MSP, who continuously demonstrated commitment and dedication to the department and his community.

“Ms. Rucinski’s dedication and commitment both at work and in her personal life exemplify the department’s goal of providing service with a purpose, making her a natural choice for the Civilian of the Year award,” said Etue.

Rucinski is an eight-year member of the department and a 21-year state employee. In her current role as secretary of the Alpena Post, she is known for her dedication, professionalism, efficiency, interpersonal skills, positive attitude and outstanding work ethic.

In addition to her administrative responsibilities, Rucinski willingly volunteers her time to assist with planning events such as Project Blue Light, Stuff a Blue Goose and Trunk or Treat.

In her free time, Rucinski is active in Relay for Life and the Zonta Walks for Women, which benefits breast cancer patients in her local area. Additionally, on several occasions she has donated her hair for chemotherapy patients through Locks of Love. To date, she has donated a total of 76 inches.

Rucinski holds an associate’s degree in administration from Alpena Community College, graduating cum laude. While in school, she served three years as president of Kappa Beta Delta Business Honor Society and was named 2009-2010 Business Information Systems Student of the Year.

Rucinski and her husband, Gary, reside in Alpena with their daughter, Nicole.
