Honigman further strengthens its Intellectual Property Department

Honigman Miller Schwartz and Cohn LLP announced that Dennis Abdelnour and Scott Barnett have joined the firm as partners in its Intellectual Property department and Intellectual Property Litigation practice. Abdelnour, who joins from Kirkland & Ellis, will be based in Honigman’s Chicago office, while Barnett, who joins from Harness, Dickey & Pierce, will be based in the firm’s Bloomfield Hills office.

Abdelnour’s practice focuses on IP litigation including inter partes reviews and complex patent litigation across a variety of industries, including automotive parts, consumer products, semiconductors, smartphones, medical devices and pharmaceuticals. Through this work, he has gained substantial trial experience in Federal District Courts and in the International Trade Commission. Abdelnour has also frequently appeared before the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Prior to joining Honigman, he was a partner in his previous firm’s Intellectual Property practice group.

Barnett counsels clients in the software, electrical and mechanical industries on a variety of IP matters ranging from trademark and copyright disputes to trade secrets litigation to patent prosecution and litigation. At his previous firm, Barnett’s practice focused on IP litigation in the technology and life sciences sectors.

“We are thrilled that Dennis and Scott will start the next chapter of their careers at Honigman,” said Jonathan O’Brien, Chair of the firm’s Intellectual Property department. “Their deep knowledge of the IP landscape as well as their trial experience will bolster our ability to provide our clients with the highest quality IP legal services possible. They are yet another great example of the top-tier talent that the firm continues to attract.”

Abdelnour and Barnett are the fifth and sixth partners to join the firm’s IP department in 2018. In addition to their arrivals, the firm has also recently welcomed IP partners John Chau, Mary Hyde, Tim Flory and Peter Cummings.
