Allard and Levan appointed to Varnum policy committee

Mark Allard and Joseph B. Levan have been named to Varnum's Policy Committee, the governing committee of the law firm.

Mark Allard is a partner in the firm's Litigation Practice Group. He concentrates his practice on suing insurance companies when they have failed to pay claims and is Varnum's lead attorney in litigation matters dealing with employee benefit claims pursuant to ERISA. He has served as coordinator of the firm's pro bono services program for many years and chairs the firm's Contributions Committee, which makes financial gifts to groups and organizations in the communities in which the firm has offices.

Joe Levan is a partner in the Corporate Practice Group focusing on general corporate and securities matters of all types, along with certain tax matters. He counsels corporate clients on business organization, governance, and mergers and acquisitions, as well as state and federal securities laws for private and public companies. He serves as chairman of the firm's Quality Control Committee as well.


Dykema’s van der Laan elected to Legal Aid of Western Michigan board


Dykema Gossett PLLC is pleased to announce that Mark van der Laan, a member in the firm’s Grand Rapids office, was recently elected to the Board of Directors of Legal Aid of Western Michigan.

Legal Aid of Western Michigan provides legal assistance to low income individuals and seniors in non-criminal, non-fee generating matters.  The organization currently serves people in a 17-county region in the lower western part of Michigan.

The attorneys at Legal Aid of Western Michigan provide a full range of legal assistance to eligible clients, that includes counsel and advice, representation in cases with administrative agencies and representation in Michigan courts.  The program also has a long history of community partnerships that address the needs of low income individuals, the disabled and disadvantaged and those who have been subjected to domestic violence.

Mark van der Laan received his B.A. from Calvin College, and an M.F.A. and J.D. from The Ohio State University.  His practice at Dykema concentrates on litigation and consumer financial services.  He is also on the Board of Directors for Junior Achievement of the Michigan Great Lakes.
