Renowned Detroit criminal defense attorney Frank Eaman visited Cooley Law School on Thursday, Feb. 2 to share his work experiences with students and faculty.
He is the principal attorney at Frank D. Eaman, PLLC, in Detroit, Mich., and an adjunct professor at Cooley's Auburn Hills campus. He is also an instructor at the Criminal Defense Attorneys of Michigan Trial College.
Titled "Ethical Implications of Court Appointed and Pro Bono Representation," the event attracted a large and attentive audience. Mr. Eaman talked about the responsibilities, practicalities, and ethical issues involved in representing clients. He is a frequent speaker on issues of criminal defense. With compelling stories from over 40 years of practice, Mr. Eaman highlighted the do's and don'ts of representing clients, expectations and consequences.
He is one of the attorneys for indigent defendants in Duncan v. Michigan, which asks the court to order the state of Michigan to provide better state funding for criminal defense in Michigan.
Before beginning his law firm in 2007, Mr. Eaman was a partner and shareholder at Bellanca, Beattie & DeLisle, PC, for 18 years. Prior to that, he was a partner and shareholder at Eaman and Ravitz, PC, for 14 years. He is AV-rated by Martindale-Hubbell and also earned numerous other awards and recognition.
