"Lawyer's Got Talent" Second Annual Show promises a fun evening

By Roberta M. Gubbins Legal News The ballroom of the Lansing Lexington Hotel is the place to be on April 20th when lawyers and law students entertain in the Second Annual Lawyers' Got Talent Show. The event features 15 acts including all attorney bands, pet tricks, belly dancing, aerial silks, original compositions, stand up comedy, piano players and some amazing vocals. Returning to the stage this year are last year's second place winner, Maureen Dyer, singing "Someone to Lay Down Beside Me," Kel Scott singing "That's Life," Annabelle's Pet Station with creative and amazing pet tricks and John Ujlaky, performing "Johnny B. Goode," a guitar and vocal act. One of the new acts this year is a performance by Philip Glovick, a Thomas M. Cooley law student, who will perform his aerial silk routine "an act where performers climb, knot and drop from two large tissues hanging from ceilings that can be anywhere from 20-60 feet." Glovick has been practicing aerial silks for about six months and trains under two companies, Aerial4Me and Daredevil Circus. The Knotty Bits Sideshow, which owns Aerial4Me, is sponsoring him for this event. He does not intend to perform professionally because "my studies come first and aerial silks is more of my escape from the stresses of law school." He explained that he was "drawn into silks through a friend of mine. Having played sports my entire life only to graduate lacking opportunity to compete in organized sports, I found aerial silks to be an excellent substitute. Aerial silks feels a lot like wrestling in that it comes down to one's ability to throw their own body weight around. Beyond that, I love the adrenaline rush. There is nothing quite like hanging upside-down 30+ feet in the air with nothing holding you up but the strength of your hands." The other new acts include: Tim Perrone - piano medley of a beloved English composer Sinas Dramis Liabilities--All Attorney Band - a medley of songs entitled "Reasonably Prudent Standard of Rock." Genie Eardley--stand up comedy routine on Legal Malpractice Michael Borsos--original classical composition by piano Lauren Noelle Clarke aka Zarina--Belly dancing Noisy Withdrawal--Jeff Mapes and Richard Merpi II Garmai Kweekeh--"My Heart Will Go On"-vocals Soultivity--All Attorney Band - R & B Medley Sheila McCoy--"I Will Always Love You"-vocals Steve Dulan --"Desperado" - piano and vocals Catherine Groll will again serve as Mistress of Ceremonies. The judge's panel this year including Judge Amy Ronayne Krause from the Court of Appeals, Judge Hugh Clarke from 54-A District Court, and Judge Clinton Canady III from the 30th Circuit Court will rate the acts and award the first, second, and third place prizes The members of the audience will vote for the People's Choice Awards. There will be great appetizers and lots of prizes. Tickets are $40.00 for the general public and $30.00 for ICBA members.
