Cooley Law annual golf outing raises money for scholarships

Cooley Law School's 23rd Annual Alumni Association Golf Benefit, held at the Country Club of Lansing on June 18th, was a sold-out success, raising $64,000 for the scholarship fund, and a fund grand total of $400,000. The event set a new record for attendance with 152 golfers resulting in the event's surpassing its fund raising goal. Thomas M. Garikes, Director of Major, Corporate and Foundation Giving at Cooley, said, ''We are indeed thankful to our 'Partners and Friends, who have supported the Alumni Memorial Scholarship Fund that has benefited so many of our students. In our present economy, we are thoughtful of your generosity during times like this. A sincere thank you to you all.'' Event proceeds go toward the Alumni Association Memorial Scholarship Endowment Fund and scholarships are awarded based upon financial need, academic achievement, extracurricular activities, and other considerations. The golfers enjoyed a bright blue sky with a mild breeze that was welcomed from an early morning torrential rain storm. The team with the overall lowest score 1st Place Team with a score of (60) consisted of alumni Charles Doolittle, David Noe, John Monterusso and Joel Hyde. 2nd Place Team with a score of (61) consisted of alumni Mike Boyle, Joe Nelson, Jon Kohn, and Victor Chiodini. 3rd Place Team with a score of (62) consisted of Dave Drayton, R. J. Brennan, Jr., Rick Delany, and Bill Schoettle. In the category of individual awards, Charles Doolittle and Bev Suhrheinrich sank the longest putt. Cindy Bowen and the Hon. Brent Danielson was closest to the pin off the tee while Laurie Michelson and Joe Arnold had the longest drive off the tee. The Cooley Cup, a trophy that recognizes the team with the lowest score, was awarded to Charles Doolittle, David Noe, John Monterusso, and Joel Hyde. About Thomas M.
