LANSING, Mich. —Foster Swift Collins and Smith PC employees completed six quilts for the national Quilts of Valor program. The handcrafted patriotic themed quilts will be on display in Foster Swift's lower level on Monday. The quilts will then be delivered to U.S service members with a personal note thanking returning veterans for their service.
This annual quilting tradition began at Foster Swift in 2011 after paralegal Jaxine Wintjen's trip to a quilt show on National Quilt Day. Although Wintjen has since passed on, the quilting continues. Paralegal Kelly LaGrave has taken over the coordination of the quilting, and Foster Swift employees Joyce Miller, Janice Van Kirk and Richelle McFate, along with family and friends, remain steadfast participants in the process.
Participants create six quilts to be delivered to US service members, using fabric purchased with funds raised through Foster Swift's casual for a cause program. Previous years' quilts have gone to US veterans and serving members at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany and the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans. The quilters complete a majority of the project in one marathon Saturday session.
