Michigan Supreme Court Justice Mary Beth Kelly, who recently informed Gov. Snyder and Chief Justice Robert P. Young of her decision to leave the court on Oct. 1 and enter the private sector, will join Bodman PLC in Detroit on Oct. 15, where she will become vice chair of the Litigation and Alternative Dispute Resolution Practice Group.
Kelly will focus her practice on business litigation, government relations, and public affairs; and will participate in the firm’s pro bono and community service programs and other leadership initiatives.

Kelly has served on the Michigan Supreme Court since January 2011. She served as the court's liaison for child welfare and juvenile justice matters, providing leadership and expertise on these issues on behalf of the court to the legislature and executive branches and other stakeholders. She has also served as the Supreme Court’s administrative liaison for all treatment courts, drug courts, and veterans' courts throughout the state.
Before her election to the Michigan Supreme Court Kelly served as a judge of the Wayne County Circuit Court from 1999-2010, including three terms as chief judge, the only woman to serve in that position at that court. Prior to becoming a judge, she worked as business litigation lawyer in private practice in Detroit.
