Farrar named co-leader of Foster Swift Business & Corporate Practice Group

Shareholder Joel Farrar has been named co-leader of the Foster Swift business and corporate practice group.  The group is one of the firm’s largest with 23 attorneys.

Farrar, who works primarily out of the firm’s Lansing office, is a business and tax attorney who serves as outside general counsel to businesses of all stages, from start-ups to public companies.
He has particular expertise in the areas of executive compensation planning, mergers and acquisitions, securities offerings and tax disputes.

Farrar also serves as the leader of Foster Swift’s State and Local Tax (SALT) group which focuses on Michigan property and non-property tax planning, administrative appeals, and litigation.

He particularly enjoys helping new entrepreneurs with forming and growing start-up businesses.  He assists start-ups with raising capital through private placements of securities; attracting talent using stock options, restricted stock, and other incentive plans; developing and documenting relationships with vendors, customers, and partners; and addressing the many other challenges before them.

Farrar received his juris doctorate from Michigan State University College of Law, summa cum laude, and his Bachelor of Science degree from Ohio University in Athens, Ohio.  He is a member of the State Bar of Michigan, the Ingham County Bar Association, and the American Bar Association.
