Sinas Dramis President Bryan Waldman rode 250 miles to the annual “Lids for Kids” bike safety event on May 14 in Traverse City, co-sponsored by the Sinas Dramis Law Firm, the Brain Injury Association of Michigan, Agevix Professional Network for Exercise Therapy, Origami Brain Injury Rehabilitation Center and the Michigan Association for Justice.
Waldman and his friend Wade Burch, both Bike Law cycling team members, left Grand Rapids on May 12, traveling about 100 miles alongside the Lake Michigan coastline and passing through Muskegon, Whitehall and Pentwater, to Ludington.
On the second day, they rode to Glen Arbor, about 85 miles, through Manistee, Onekama, Beulah, and Empire, and to the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore.
The cyclists reached Traverse City on May 14, where “Lids for Kids” was held at F&M Park. More than 400 helmets were given away, in addition to other fun family activities.
“I have ridden this distance before,” Waldman said. “Most of the bike rides I do are fast rides — racing and training for races. This was a slow bicycle touring type of ride, taking our time and enjoying all that Michigan has to offer.”
No stranger to slower-paced bike rides, Waldman, the author of “The Legal Handbook for Michigan Cyclists,” has done similar tours in Utah, Colorado, and Montana including one for his father’s 50th birthday.
Since Lids for Kids began 15 years ago, more than 6,000 bike helmets have been handed out.
The event was originally called Heads Up For Safety and held in Lansing, and was renamed after events were launched in Traverse City and Grand Rapids.
