'Power of the Purse' organizers hope for record turnout on Nov. 11

By Frank Weir Legal News Organizers for this year's second annual "Power of the Purse" say that this year's version will build on the success of the inaugural event last year. Co-sponsors Great Lakes Caring and The Women's Leadership Council for United Way of Jackson County, have set Veteran's Day, Friday, Nov. 11, 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. as the date and The Country Club of Jackson as the venue. "The festivities will include honoring the men and women of our military and proceeds will go to Jackson School of the Arts and Dochas' II Counseling," a spokesperson said. "This year we've brought back everything you loved about our inaugural event and added some great new features. Your $50 ticket gets you a full evening that will start with heavy hors d'oeuvres and a cash bar, a door prize ticket for each guest and Jackson's best 'swag' bag." Organizers add that pro DJ's will be on hand to provide the entertainment during the display of 10 "phenomenal" purses that will be auctioned by local "auctioneer legend" Tim Bos. "Beautiful hand painted wine glasses, designed by local artist Gayle Carpenter, will once again be available for purchase to commemorate the event as well and a wine charm sale will double as a raffle for a gorgeous jeweled purse pendent valued at $600, donated by Arbor Manor." The spokesperson added that the Vintage Bakery has designed purse-shaped cake centerpieces that also will be for sale and AG Chocolates will provide treats and a chocolate fountain. Melissa Callison, Women's Leadership Council Chair and Dea Talmage, Women's Leadership Council United Way Representative jointly said, "Attendees have an opportunity to be involved in a fabulous evening and a powerful endeavor. "On behalf of the Women's Leadership Council and the children served by Jackson School of the Arts and Dochas' II Counseling, we thank you for your consideration."
