United Way of Jackson County recently announced the early results of its community needs fundraising efforts, reporting nearly $483,000 in pledges and contributions to help Jackson County families in need.
The amount is approximately 24 percent of the goal of $2,012,000.
"Times are tough, and people are struggling to make ends meet," said Bruce Goldsen, volunteer Campaign Chair for United Way of Jackson County.
"We thank all those who made a donation, and ask everyone who is able to help to please join in."
The United Way fundraising effort is headed by a team of over 20 volunteers who make up the Campaign Cabinet.
"These community minded representatives direct the efforts of over 500 volunteers who collect donations on behalf of Jackson County residents in need," a spokesperson said.
"I especially want to thank our wonderful volunteers who help collect all the contributions", said Goldsen. "Jackson County families will benefit from every penny we raise."
The campaign kicked off on September 9 and 17 with Days of Caring and Remembrance, where over 130 local volunteers contributed their time and talents to help local nonprofits, schools and senior citizens with special "clean up - fix up" projects and other needs.
The United Way of Jackson County is in its 76th year of serving the Jackson community.
"It supports over forty different programs and initiatives that provide thousands of Jackson County residents the opportunity for a better life."
