Center for Family Health launches $2 million capital campaign to expand
The Center for Family Health has launched a $2 million capital campaign to partially finance two separate expansions. Individuals, corporations or foundations can donate by contacting Terry Langston, the Center's development officer, at 517-748-5500 or tlangston@cfhinc.org. Individuals also can donate at www.centerforfamilyhealth.org.
In June, the Center announced plans to build a new dental facility in Jackson, freeing up space in its main facility at 505 N. Jackson for its family-medicine practice. A new, stand-alone medical center in Hillsdale also is on the drawing board. Both projects hope to start accepting patients in 2015.
The cost is $5 million for the dental office and $3 million for the primary-care clinic. The rest of the money is expected to be raised through financing and grants from foundations. The cost of operations will be covered by insurance reimbursements, including Medicaid.
Low-income adults in Jackson County have had problems accessing dental services for years. The advent of Healthy Michigan, the state's Medicaid expansion, provides enrolled adults with dental coverage in addition to medical coverage. The Center will be able to add those adults to its dental-patient population with the expansion.
Moving dental out of 5,700 square feet of the Center's main facility will create space for 12 medical examination rooms, which can serve four full-time medical providers and 7,200 patients. The additional space will have the added benefit of expanding the family medicine residency program.
