MLK Diversity Celebration slated for Jan. 15 and Jan. 18

The Jackson County Chamber of Commerce announced the 2021 MLK Diversity Celebration presented by AARP, will be a virtual celebration broadcasted by JTV on Jan. 15 and Jan. 18 from 8-9a.m. and again from 10-11a.m.

The celebration will feature Michigan Lieutenant Governor, Garlin Gilchrist’s keynote of the strength of diversity and Dr. King’s legacy.  Additionally, the Jackson District Library is partnering with the Chamber to include students from the Middle School at Parkside who will recite excerpts from Dr. King’s Drum Major Instinct Sermon.

Benefactors of the event will include Challenge Day, a nonprofit organization committed to building empathy and compassion. Challenge Day programs are held every fall for 7th graders.

Also, the Chamber, in cooperation with the Jackson Community Foundation, has created a scholarship for a Jackson County student of color to continue their education at Jackson College, Spring Arbor University, or Baker College.
